On April 20 2013 Jordan Strahan and Joel Stephens will be setting off around the full circumference of Australia by bike planning on riding over 14700 km in the space of 4 months – 120 days and will be aided by Luke Smith who is the designated support vehicle driver. They will travel to every major city on the mainland` starting in Perth going in an anticlockwise direction to Adelaide – Melbourne – Canberra – Sydney – Brisbane – Darwin, excluding Tasmania, and will average 175 km a day of cycling. The aim of this enormous feat is to raise $15000 for World Bicycle Relief (WBR); non-profit organization that transforms individuals and their communities through the Power of Bicycles.
“A bicycle is an industrial revolution in an individual’s life.”
Compared to walking, bicycles represent an enormous leap in productivity and access to healthcare, education and economic opportunities. The simple, sustainable nature of bicycles empowers individuals, their families and their communities. Therein lies the aim of WBR by distributing specially designed bikes to these impoverished communities and relief projects throughout Africa.
Raising $15000 for WBR would mean that 100 people in need would receive a bike and 15 others would be trained as mechanics to sustain the functionality of bikes and provide further jobs.
